Pimpara Lake Station is 12 hours and 40 minutes from Sydney CBD a 44,000 hectare sheep and cattle property located west of the Silver City Highway, 200 kilometres north of Broken Hill. Since purchasing the property in 1980 the owners, Jon and Ruth Sandow, have actively engaged in sustainable water and pasture conservation practices that support livestock production and, at the same time, enhance habitat for wildlife, including forty man-made watering points. Self-guided or guided property tours demonstrate these conservation activities and provide many opportunities for observing and photographing the wildlife and natural landscapes.
Night skies are often clear and enable serious star watching and photography. Accommodation options include secluded campsites which are perfect for families and bird-watchers, and there are also self-catering shearers’ quarters for up to twelve guests (linen can be provided upon request). The Homestead B and B enables closer interaction between guests and Pimpara Lake’s owners, with home-style meals served in the homestead dining room.
Enquire about the fully-equipped shearer’s quarters are available for hire, with single beds for up to twelve people. Bedding can be provided upon request.
Caravanners may park at the shearer’s quarters and connect to the power.
Showers, toilets and laundry facilities are available for campers to use.
Tours can be self-drive with map and print information, or 2-3 hour accompanied tour. A unique area known as the “the cliffs” is only accessible under guidance and can take up to 3 hours.
Watering points, stock yards and land-care initiatives form part of property tour commentary, as well as land-systems, plant and animal life.
Self-contained B& B homestead accommodation, comprising bedroom, kitchenette and shower.
Special arrangements can be made about accommodation and meals for fly-ins.
Prior notification is essential for all accommodation in shearer’s quarters and at the homestead, meals and accompanied tours.
Camping is somewhat more flexible.
There are also a number of walks and drives that can be taken.
