Enjoy the history behind this early settlers’ cottage which was built originally as a residence for gold miners at Hillgrove circa 1860, and transported by bullock team in 1901 to its present location when the farmhouse was built.
The charming historic farmhouse is on 140 acre farm is home to our family of five, ducks, hens, geese, cattle and various other farmyard animals – and they are all very friendly! As well as enjoying time on the trampoline, children may like to help collect the eggs from the chicken house in the morning.
We have two dogs and pet ducks in the garden so children have plenty of opportunity for an enjoyable farm experience. Also resident is a young cat with a most interesting personality. The garden of 2 acres is fully fenced.
The cottage you will stay in is warm and snug with heating, electric blankets, fluffy doonas, and ironing utilities. There is a small refrigerator as well as tea and coffee making facilities, along with a barrel of homemade cookies for you!
You will find fresh floral arrangemnts in the cottage, as well as soft fluffy bath towels and all linen is provided. After dinner treats include English Fudge, chocolate peppermints and an opened bottle of port.
There is a CD system so bring along your favourite music to enjoy. There is a microwave in the cottage, and television with DVD available on request. Reading matter in the cottage is both abundant and versatile – a selection of magazines and books offering everything from poetry to kiddies books!
A hearty gourmet breakfast is cooked for you and includes fresh and poached fruit, yoghurt, freshly squeezed orange juice, farm eggs and bacon, plunger coffee, Twinings Tea, home baked fresh bread, and delicious jams made from our fruit trees! During the warmer weather, you may enjoy this, at your leisure, in the garden beneath the shade of the fruit trees.
Delicious three course traditional dinners by candlelight (including a complimentary bottle of local wine) are optional, and highly recommended.
In addition to being almost adjacent to our local vineyard with its cellar door and restaurant, our location provides a convenient base to explore historic buildings, Cathedrals, University, National Parks and Waterfalls nearby in the New England area.
The historic cottage with its two bedrooms and ensuite, although not large, is well equipped with a selection of books, magazines and activities, and there are heaters in every room with good insulation and electric blankets on all the beds. Fans are provided for the warmer weather. Microwave, BBQ with crockery and cutlery are also available.
Beautiful gourmet breakfasts enjoyed beneath the canopy of fruit trees, are a specialty and included in the tariff. Bread is home baked and preserves are lovingly made from fruit trees in the garden.
Meet the cheeky miniature horse, ducks, geese and hens for the children to feed and collect the eggs.
Option of delicious and intimate candlelit dinner with complimentary bottle of wine,or a short drive to town to dine at one of the many restaurants. Your hosts will help you with ideas according to your preference in places to choose for dinner. The chance to relax and enjoy country hospitality at its best – ” warm, friendly and generous”. Magnificent waterfalls nearby and bushwalking through Oxley Wild Rivers National Park.
